Author's grovel note: My sincerest apologies to both grav_ity and anr for the ludicrous delay in posting this story, a sin for which I deserve no less than forty lashes with a wet noodle. I have no excuse, really, other than Kate’s request prompted much more writing than I have ever written for a fanfic, and I ended up with a much longer story than I normally would have. Then real life got in the way, and well, you know the rest. In any case, I hope that by breaking it up, Kate can get at least a part of the request she made until Part Two is completed.
